The Kibagare slum, located in Nairobi, is home to some of the poorest people in the world. A complete lack of access to simple resources such as education, has brewed a cycle of idle hopelessness that has kept its inhabitants rooted and dreamless. With the aim of reversing this mentality, Koinonia Education Centre (KEC) began in 2003, as a ministry of the Kyuna Christian Fellowship, by admitting sixteen children into its school. Every year a fresh group of 4 year olds join Koinonia and that first class progresses to a new academic year. In total, there are now over 80 students at KEC. The school uses the Accelerated Christian Education Curriculum (ACE), which lays emphasis on character development accompanied by an excellent academic program. In addition, the children receive special instruction in computer studies, karate, swimming, art, drama, physical fitness and music, and are also provided with meals, school uniform and all learning materials. This well-rounded education has so far made a real, observable difference in the children and their families’ lives. The centre's hope is that one day the children will have the strength to become leaders who will change the slums that they were born and raised in. In view of that, we are constantly looking for sponsors to cater for the children's education. The cost of sponsoring a child is Kenya Shillings 10,000 per term with a three year commitment. Donations can be made by cheque directly to:
Giving to Koinonia Education Centre is a wonderful opportunity to change the lives of individual children as well as whole families. By helping to provide an excellent education for individual children growing up in a very poor slum, you are offering hope and making a significant difference in their lives. |
